The median salary of academic engineers exceeds EUR 5,000
According to a recent member survey by Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland TEK, the median salary of an academic engineer in permanent employment was EUR 5,100 in October 2020 while the average monthly salary was EUR 5,564. The survey was conducted in Finland.
The median salary rose by EUR 114, or 2.3 percent, from the previous year, now exceeding the EUR 5,000 threshold for the first time.
By far the most common reason for the salary increase was the general salary increase, which was the case for 69 percent of the respondents whose salary had increased. Of the respondents, 23 percent had received a raise based on personal performance.
The emphasis of taxation should be shifted so that taxation policy would focus more on consumption.
CEO Jari Jokinen from Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland TEK is concerned by the fact that a substantial share of the salary increase goes directly to the tax authorities.
– If a person who earns EUR 5,000 a month gets a raise of EUR 100, more than half of the sum goes straight to taxes. That is not encouraging. The emphasis of taxation should be shifted so that taxation policy would focus more on consumption. This would also be sustainable for the environment, says Jari Jokinen from TEK.
The labour market survey data was collected in October 2020. The survey targeted TEK members who are active in the labour market, and garnered about 9,500 responses in total.
The most common degree completed by the respondents was Master of Science in Technology. Most of the respondents worked as specialists in the private sector.
